The first issue of PARTNERS was themed around relationships. The cover was graced by Juergen Teller and his son Ed. The 24-page visual was a proposal that was received five months after the initial deadline.
The first time we worked with Juergen Teller was for a video interview for STUDIO VOICE, a Japanese culture magazine. After about an hour of interviewing, we photographed him over the monitor. Kindly, he was showing us around the studio with a computer in his hand. And to our surprise, Juergen was shooting the PLATES series at the time, and he noticed a coffee cup saucer in my hands and asked me to hold the plate. He then took the camera from his assistant and started shooting. I remember that he asked something like, "Can you bring the plate a little closer to your face?"
This is when we really fell in love with Juergen. During the interview and shooting, we were able to see kindness that we would never expect from a super-busy-photographer like him. And we were convinced that Juergen could take such photos like he did for Marc Jacobs with a lot of celebrities.

This story was published in PARTNERS #1. During our conversation, Juergen told me that he had recently been to a WWE professional wrestling game with his son and his classmates. And that maybe soon, he would start taking photos. This conversation inspired me to start PARTNERS magazine.
Even if you are not interested in something, you will go if your son, family member or partner wants to go. This is exactly what you can do because of other people. That is why this project that is very important to us.
